What about the Mac Pro? It's way past due, would that come first, before the iMac?
CPUs for Mac Pro (codename Romley) won't be out until Q4 2011 so we are looking at late 2011 or early 2012 update.
One thing that will stink about the iMac update is that the GPU will most likely only get 8 PCIe lanes, as 4 of them will go to Thunderbolt. Sandy Bridge offers a max of 16 PCIe lanes. So Apple, maybe you feel like adding USB3 to the mix to use the last 4 lanes.

Come on Mac Mini update; well overdue for a refresh. That Core 2 Duo is keeping me from buying.
I just bought a refurbed Mac mini (HDMI) and was really surprised at how much horsepower that little C2D had to it! It is a GREAT Home Theatre Mac and am totally happy with my purchase! But if they put ThunderBolt in it and an i3 I won't be upset. This chips are getting to the point that they have beaten the software in the core-to-use ratio.
Maybe I'm just getting older and refined in how I design but there are few times that I have to actually WAIT for my Macs to perform a filter or effect that 15 years ago would have caused me to take a coffee break while my old Mac crunched the info. I don't care if I'm using a MacBook or a MacPro... I'll design on any of them and be quite content.

why would I want to pay someone $17 an hour to a job a monkey is almost qualified to do? Sounds like an opportunity to hire less people, or jack my prices up. A job is worth simply what a job is worth. Period. If I'm trying to offer services at competitive prices, and someone is willing to bag groceries for $3 an hour, then they should be ALLOWED to. Rather than me just choose to hire nobody and using automated checkouts.
What happens then? More people find jobs, and prices go down. $3 dollars suddenly buys you a subway sandwich. # of consumers goes up bc more people are employed, which brings in more revenue, causes more hiring etc.
Also, people who do want to make $10 bucks an hour are forced to either be productive or learn something useful, which is good for everyone, plus that $10 is worth more now bc of deflation. Deflation would also drive interest rates on loans down bc the money you pay back is worth more.
Best case scenario, taxes are low at this point, and the government isn't a handout machine, so people feel the need to donate to an EFFICIENT charity. Rather than to the government, which is the most inefficient entity on the planet.
Overall result: More buying power, lower unemployment, more substantial and efficient charity, more innovation.
OR we can take away every incentive to be productive (France) and have a GDP smaller than the interest payments on the national debt (France in 2020)

US government regulations for increasing gas efficiency has resulted in car companies making vehicles lighter at rate beyond evolving the technology to maintain safety, which has resulted in an average of 10,000 avoidable deaths per year since the early 70's
But hey, maybe that fraction of environmental impact we have that's causing that fraction of a global degree change might have been marginally altered. Maybe. And it's only cost us ~300,000 lives so far. Thank you government! Just tack that onto the millions you killed by restricting DDT use, and you can further brag about your death toll

Who has room for two external displays on a desk that already has a 27" iMac?! Dual outs on the MBP would make much more sense, although achieving it may be more of a technical challenge in terms of GPU power.
ETA: Of course, having an external display connected directly and using the other ThunderBolt port for non-display ThunderBolt devices makes much sense, especially seeing as ThunderBolt devices can't be daisy-chained after a display. So I'm not saying the two ports don't make sense.

And remember that in the Android bucket are all the Chinese knockoffs that don't run the Android store and are Android in name only, but hey, IDC will throw them into the bucket. As for iOS, well, if you are an iPod touch you don't count, and neither do the iPads. Phones only, please, even if you are just an Asian knockoff. So remember that the iOS market share is quite a bit larger than shown here.
Finally, I see market share, but where is the chart of revenue share? Oh right, that wouldn't please their corporate sponsors, so IDC focuses on market share only.

Three points:
1) Microsoft is primarily a software that is transitioning from a two trick pony into a diverse company addressing many areas - such diversification will take years to occur but to write Microsoft off at this stage is simply being stupid (as some have done on other forums out there on the internet).
2) Apple is stretched too thinly with the latest font fiasco being one of many fiascos; from the design defects in MacBook Pro's generation after generation to the design defect in the iPhone 4, the constant bugs appearing and made worse in each release and update of Mac OS X. Then there is the mountain of bugs in iOS with phones being dropped in terms of support asap and bugs once again not being fixed. Sooner or later people are going to catch onto the fact that Apple isn't dedicating the resources to their products and it'll come back to bite them in the ass. Apple is on a winning streak but remember that these winning streaks can't last forever.
3) Lion appears to be yet another example of a rushed job by Apple where once again a mountain of bugs are introduced, old bugs aren't being fixed promptly, promises but failure to deliver, new features but old hardware unsupported even though the actual hardware itself supports the said features (OpenGL 3.x support being one example of that). Again, sooner or later people are going to hook onto the fact that once again Apple ships yet another half baked operating system that'll require minimum 2-3 combo updates just to make it useful not only for end users but also for third party vendors to write their applications against.
Cheer all you want but there are genuine issues that need resolving by Apple but I don't see it happening any time soon. As for me, I am holding off till the end of this year to decide whether I stick with Mac's or whether I head over to the Windows world. If they can't even design a 17 MacBook Pro correctly then I don't hold out much hope that Lion isn't a complete clusterf-ck.
Edit: For WP7 haters, I suggest you actually use one before judging it. Microsoft is like Intel, a large company that takes a while for the ship to be turned around - anyone who remembers the P4 fiasco should remember how long it took for them to get back on track again. Microsoft is in the same situation, it will take at least 1-2 years to get back on track and by that time Microsoft will have a product for the tablet that'll be running Windows and Microsoft Office. People may boohoo Microsoft but when push comes to shove the big corporates will be wetting their pants with delight when they see a tablet running Microsoft Office.
Yes, we'll just wait patiently while they catch up. No rush.
Oh, and Apple and Google just called and said they'll stop innovating and stand still as a friendly gesture.

We have a mass-market commodity-ware vendor that apparently has the power to give things away for free that are "good enough." Before, MS used to be the "just good enough" vendor. Then you've got Apple on the Premium end showing the way forward.
This "You just watch, MS will catch up eventually" tactic is currently and will in the future continue to produce diminishing returns.
MS is Zuning it in the current tech climate. Bad management, false starts, a string of failures, continual embarrassment . . . all of this would be no problem at all, if only investors, shareholders, directors - whoever has the power - would call for the entire top-level management at MS to be terminated. THAT is positive change. But same old same old . . .

If they can put the menu logic into iTunes, all the "Airport Express A/V" would have do do is add an H264 decoder chip and video DAC to the current Airport Express, that would be a pretty cheap solution.
Just note that the H.264 decoder chip in the 5G iPod is what sets the resolution and bitrate limits for current iTMS videos to no more than 320x240 and under 768 kbps. Any more powerful chip would put out more heat and require a larger box to dissipate it. If they went with MPEG-4 they could already handle 2Mbps 480x480 files which is competitive with current digital satellite offerings.

Finder does not support Cut and Paste for files, and is unlikely to do so. Its a philosophical difference, and to bring that up as an example of Win7 superiority is silly, at best. Apple could easily implement it, but they choose not to. Its another one of those "One button Mouse" deals, where Apple is being obstinate.
Windows 7 is a much better OS than its predecessors, but to claim it does the "little things" better than SL is so hilarious I don't know how to respond. There is literally no consistency between anything. Just go to the Control Panel, and while clicking dialogs you will be transported between windows that look like they are modern Web Pages (especially the network panels, with blinking computers) and panels that looked like they haven't realized that Windows 95 is obsolete yet.
Windows 7 is a UI and usability nightmare (compared to SL, although much better than Vista). What I do give credit to MS for is that its security model is rock solid (probably better than Linux and most Unixes). Mac OS X has fallen behind in security. This, however, is not that big an issue anymore, IMO, because all OS security is complex enough that attackers are relying on OS vulnerabilities less, and Social Engineering more to gain access. Again, Windows's bad (and more important in this context, horribly inconsistent over the years) UI has made its users more vulnerable to such attacks.

I love Snow Leopard. I use it EVERYDAY, right beside Windows 7. I wasn't saying that that one particular feature made it far superior - just that something so "small" really does effect the user experience.

What I do give credit to MS for is that its security model is rock solid (probably better than Linux and most Unixes). Mac OS X has fallen behind in security. This, however, is not that big an issue anymore, IMO, because all OS security is complex enough that attackers are relying on OS vulnerabilities less, and Social Engineering more to gain access. Again, Windows's bad (and more important in this context, horribly inconsistent over the years) UI has made its users more vulnerable to such attacks.

Finder does not support Cut and Paste for files, and is unlikely to do so. Its a philosophical difference, and to bring that up as an example of Win7 superiority is silly, at best. Apple could easily implement it, but they choose not to. Its another one of those "One button Mouse" deals, where Apple is being obstinate.

I love Snow Leopard. I use it EVERYDAY, right beside Windows 7. I wasn't saying that that one particular feature made it far superior - just that something so "small" really does effect the user experience.

Exactly. The sad thing is that people pay them to predict something 4 years out like this. In a vibrant market like this, there is no way predictions 4 years out will be right. Maybe 1 year could be close.

You keep talking about a non-existent adapter that costs $10 and comparing mini-display port adapters that merely convert signal paths isn't even in the same realm as converting to an entirely different interface. In other words your 'adapter' prices are 100% BS and you know it.

The ad on that box is marketing BS about the "interface" not the drive they're selling (which is a slow 5200 RPM SATA drive which all top out between 40-60MB/sec PERIOD, regardless whether they use SATA, USB3, Firewire 800 or Thunderbolt). Show me a 7200 RPM (or better yet a 10,000+ SCSI rated) drive connected to USB3 AND TB (or even FW800) and then compare their actual speeds. OR find an array that goes fast like the one Intel was using that also has USB3 on it and compare their actual speeds 1 to 1. Showing me Steak Diane on one plate and a hot dog on the other doesn't prove the cook who made the hot dog doesn't know how to cook. I think the 5200 RPM 2.5" drive that came with my MBP capped out around 50MB/sec using a SATA II interface (or 450mbps). Does that prove my SATA chip set SUCKS? NO, IT DOES NOT. When I replaced it with a 7200 RPM Hitachi, it now caps out around 110MB/sec (or 880mbps, well above FW800's theoretical cap even). Even my PPC G4 gets 105MB/sec caps with its 1.5TB 7200 RPM Seagate Barracuda drives (and SATA does eat CPU as well; if I try to run two of them at the same time I still get a total of around 100MB/sec with the CPU pegged at 95-100%. The older PCI bus is also in the way. Thus it's not the SATA interface there that's the problem either, but you might think so if you make assumptions based only on one test number and no idea what's in the computer being used or any statistics about the CPU or Bus while its being used. Your YouTube videos comparisons are absurd in that regard. Cheap mass storage devices (like the Lacie) aren't made for performance. Show me TB making that same drive do over 100MB/sec. The longer it takes to get a large installed user base, the longer the prices will stay high on any TB products. It's plainly obvious that TB is going to be a high-end niche product just like FW800, at least for the forseeable future. While Intel's demo is totally cool, it doesn't remotely represent the AVERAGE PC user in any shape or form. Most people aren't editing 4 simultaneous streams of 1080p video on a mega-buck professional high-speed drive array.

Why would they do commercials? Commercials only make sense if they give you content for free. Has anyone done home viewing of movies for a fee and still included commercials (other than movie trailers)?
As damienvfx suggestes there are plenty of commercials beyond trailers when you go out to the movies these days, which can easily be a $50+ affair, so why expect to be ad-free...
There have also been some ads (albeit more like trailers) tacked on th the end of some shows I have bought on iTMS.
