Just wow to the morons who are questioning if it was necessary to shoot him in the head. If the security guard had been killed you would be like "oh that's just sad. He's a hero". WTF kinda a$$ backward thinking is that?
He's a "SECURITY" guard for fock's sake. it's what he's there for. These guys threatened to kill people and yet it's wrong to shoot one in the head.
I personally would prefer the criminal social parasites to die than the security guard. And why the fock are you so concerned about a security guard carrying a weapon? The poor guy is putting his life out there to bring some bread to his home while protecting your moron a$$. He's offering the society a legitimate service instead of joining a gang and you're worried about him having a gun? My god people. This country is going to ***** if we have people this dumb doing any kind of work and having this kind of mentality.
And I'm a complete liberal, btw, but I do have a sense of the real world.

Very sad. Someone lost their life over something so trivial. And sad that the guard has to live with knowing he took a life. :(

The guard can live with the fact that someone tried to take HIS life, but fortunately he was trained well enough to defend himself successfully.

Even with all of the debates that are going on in this thread, I am excited about this update. I have been waiting for the new iMac. I am currently using a 1.42GHz eMac G4 that I purchased new in ~ 2005. It still runs great and I have no complaints with it. I do believe that I will still wait for the early issues that come with any new machine to be resolved and for the newest version of OS X.

So please explain one thing, why is the special event two days before the shows starts? (Apple Special Event on the 24th, Photokina start on the 26th)
Who goes to these special events? The press? There won't be any 'normal' visitors there yet, only other companies preparing for the event? Why send someone from the press two days in advance?
Are they just using Photokina to reduce the hassel of organising a big media event themselves?
I have no clue, I never attended or organized such an event!

Pity they didn't slim down the iMac by choppin' the chin (assuming this rumor is true). Can't wait to see what they release. The old "smaller iMac" rumor priced for the "mass market" kept me interested in the next iMac update--hope to see something trimmed for the "mass market".

I just took my iMac apart to replace a failed hard drive. It is easy to see why the chin is required if you ever go in there and look. Don't go by those teardown photos thy loose the 3D effect you get in person.
If nothing else the upper part of the LCD must be at about eye level for ergonomic reasons so what else does one do with the space below the LCD? They need some empty space for the speaker's boxes and air must flow some how from bottom vents the the centers of those squirrel cadge fans. The LCD panel has a certain thickness so the things said above must go in some part of the computer with no LCD. We waited 334 days for this? That is how long we went without an iPod update, by far the longest gap in updates, and all we get is larger storage capacity and a few new games?
In the past 2 quarters, for the first time since Apple introduced the iPod, iPod sales have declined. Last quarter, Apple sold just over 8 million iPods, down from a peak of over 14 million 2 quarters ago. The reason is because people bought new iPods, and there was no reason to replace them because it took Apple so long to update the models. Now, after all of the wait (nearly a year) and speculation about 16x9 video iPods, touch-screen controls, wireless capabilities, etc., I think this update will go mostly unnoticed to consumers and iPod sales will continue to fall. Apple needs to drastically change and improve iPod offerings if it wants to maintain its market advantage and keep the iPod fashionable.
The fact you seem to miss is that the Nano is by far the biggest selling iPod. And they did a pretty nice update to it, what more would you want in that model? They definitely will update the "big" ipod at some point, but there are some MAJOR technological hurdles to overcome, especially battery life for video and the no-touch interface. We'd all love to see it, but apple really needs to take their time and get it right if it's truly going to be groundbreaking.
iPod w/video sales probably won't do much (except for the price drop, which is pretty nice), but nanos and shuffles should sell like mad. I'd be shocked if iPod sales don't spike back up again.
I just checked on the Apple site, and there isn't a new iPod updater to include the new software updates for the original 5G iPods.
I thought updates were now going to be handled by iTunes. Maybe the updates haven't been made available to it online yet. After all, iTunes and QT haven't showed up in software update either.
Edit: The REAL question is have they updated iTunes to be a better video player? I hate watching TV or movies in the current version.

Samsung is starting to be less and less innovative, they really are setting down at the drawing board , scratching their heads trying to come up with a design and then....." bing!!! their iphone mail alert just popped off and there is their next cell design!!
So, when have Samsung been innovative? Is buying other company's tech innovative? Or expanding beyond their bread and butter grocery market innovative? I guess I'll wait till I hear from you on that one. Samsung are less innovative than any large company I've ever come across, only garnering wins by buying out other companies and stifling competition in their home country.

I'm starting to question the validity of any keynote.There's only one story about it and it's not even on the radio shows webpage.Why are there not more media types getting "invitations" ?

There are people trying to paint this as though any tablet or mobile phone is similar to the rest so Apple has no case. Not true. Apple is suing one company for a copy so close that it is hard to see the difference.

Because Apple lost? Yes, patent-system IS messed up. But Apple is taking advatange of it as well. Now that Apple lost, everybody complains, yet no-one complains when Apple files for obvious patents as well.

I went into it in detail in my earlier post, but basically, Apple is happily giving Creative the teeth it needs to go after Sandisk, iRiver, and most importantly Zune.
Remember, as a result of this settlement, Creative is heavily incentivized to extract payment from every wannabe iPod killer in existence while agreeing not to so much as give Apple a dirty look any more. In fact, as Creative successfully collects licensing fees, it begins to pay Apple back.
It sounds like a $100 million loan to me.

As I stated in a few posts up I'm not that happy with the pricing of the iTunes Movies, but, if I were to buy any I would quickly run into a huge problem - STORAGE! I have an iBook with 60 GB drive and it's almost full from other stuff.
Apple should come out with a home storage network server with RAID, etc.
that's my hold back right now. i just don't have space for movies on my powerbook, and putting them on external media wouldn't make sense, at that point i could just toss a dvd or two in my backpack.
