I think the reason why new sub-forums are created is when there is a relatively big number of threads in other sub-forums that are similar and not really related to the topics of the sub-forums. If there are many threads about Science and Apple in current forums, then it might be worth it to create a new sub-forum that is dedicated to that topic.
For example, the creation of OS X Lion sub-forum made sense because it is a topic that is a bit different from normal OS X discussions since currently it's mainly speculation. It is pretty easy to separate normal OS X discussions (mainly troubleshooting and questions) and speculation of future OS X. This makes it easier for people to navigate and find threads. Otherwise Lion discussions might have conquered the whole OS X sub-forum. Lion is also a hot topic so it gets a lot traffic, meaning that it's not a dead sub-forum.
I haven't seen any threads that would belong to Science and Apple sub-forum. You need to have something to start with. Making a new sub-forum and wishing that someone comes in and makes a thread doesn't make much sense. Just because there isn't a sub-forum for every topic about Apple doesn't mean that there should be.
This doesn't sound like a topic that would generate a lot interest and discussion. If you really want to talk about this, go and make a thread to Apple, Industry and Internet Discussion (http://forums.macrumors.com/forumdisplay.php?f=8). That should be a good start at least. There are topics such as Hackintoshes that show up every now and then but there still isn't an own sub-forum for them.

you know, ive been reading around of people who have iEmulator.... some people are getting up into the 700-800mhz range on a G4.... but I dont necessarly know if they are actually getting that speed...
im only getting like, 200mhz on VPC7
If they're using QEMU as the base, not a hope. Closer to 50MHz if they're lucky.
I did a Win 98 install on QEMU about 6 months ago and it too 48 hours. Once you go to use it, it's better, but still nowhere close to VPC7.
Still, it is a very impressive piece of work.

I have a mac desktop with Mac OS X version 10.4.11 and I can't open my files and or folders, it also will not let me "right click" or save bookmarks. Do I need a norton anti-virus or can I get this thing to fix itself. Sorry if I am on the wrong forum but it is a bit confusing and I am 66 years old and it's a feat just to operate on of these. thanks. coop

I know people have been doing white conversions for months using knock-off parts. Now that the REAL THING exists, are there any places selling the real OEM parts? I held off on doing my conversion because I didn't want knock-off crap. I want to buy the real thing! Help?

Sorry to bother y'all with another release date question.
With iMacs and MacPros also due for an upgrade, are Mac Minis even next to be released?
How do you think Apple prioritizes? (besides materials available, that's obvious)

I know what this is... this is an example of a Company trying to out do Apple Computer Inc.
The brilliant Marketing and Product design folks there forgot to check the MacRumors site where they could have easily caught wind of the XServe.
The Moral of the Story... Nobody does it better, makes me feel sad for the rest...:(

oops, looks like i'm deviating from the subject, as usual:)
oh well, lets recover this. i think, no make that feel, that if they do release a new ibook at mwsf, it will be all widescreen. that sems to be the way that their going. I also, i could see them going with "fake" ddr, a-la xserve, but then again, that may not be true, or only be reserved for a high end model. i do not see bluetooth, as it is really still a cool, but useless protocol. i do see a matte case, though, maybe with a smooth plastic around the screen, like in the iMac. Also, i could see them going with a g4 MAYBE, even though that my drive up the price. That would leave the g3, with it's many legs to stand on, to run as an eBook(?) model, looking and optioned like a current iBook.

Have you tried any of these steps?
Mac doesn't boot (http://guides.macrumors.com/Mac_doesn?_boot)
Resolve startup issues and perform disk maintenance with Disk Utility and fsck (http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1417)
Troubleshooting: My computer won't turn on (http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1367)
Btw, the Mac mini, obviously being an older G4 model, being plugged into a router does not have anything to do with its bootability.

Does the promotion definitely start at the end of May? I graduate June 12, so there's a limited window in which I can still take advantage of the student deals (and my 2007 MacBook is on its way out).
2008 - Tuesday June 3rd
2009 - Tuesday May 26th
2010 - Tuesday May 25th
Best bet for 2011 would be either the 24th of May or the 31st of May based on the historic dates

I'm thinking of getting a MBP soon, but obviously, I want to have Lion on it. I remember that in previous years, you could buy a Mac right before a new release came out, and they would ship you an upgrade CD when it was released free of charge. So, for example, if it was a month before OS X Snow Leopard came out, you would buy a Mac with Leopard and they would ship you the Snow Leopard upgrade CD a month later. Does anyone know when that'll happen (or if it'll happen) for Lion?

I don't think it's the PRAM battery as the type of configurations he mentions usually are stored on their own plist file. Try repairing permissions.

I think that goes along well with this thread on why vehicles need to be designed with safety in mind.

What a terrible piece of bad luck, to survive the overturn of the bus only to be sliced by the lighting gantry.
Thirteen people have been killed and 10 injured in a tour bus accident in New York City, officials say.
The bus overturned on the New England Thruway in the Bronx at about 0530 (1030 GMT) on Saturday, a spokesman for the city's fire department said.
It slid on its side and then hit a light pole which sheared off the top of the bus, the spokesman said.
Six of the injured are said to be in a critical condition. The bus was carrying up to 33 passengers.
The light pole "went through the whole bus from front to rear", a fire department spokesman told the New York Times newspaper.

Rather than try to password protect the drive, how about creating some encrypted DMG's or TrueCrypt containers on the drive.
+1 - Truecrypt is my favorite here. I have several document containers. If you want to go the password-router way though, what kind of router is it? You should be able to set it up as a protected 'share.'
