Speaking in Singapore this week, Creative CEO Sim Wong Hoo bullishly pronounced: "I'm planning to spend some serious money - I intend to out-market everyone."
Wong Hoo to Creative engineer: "This is no good, i give you $1000000 more and i want something much much better"
unCreative engineer: "Wooo Hooo, thanks Mr, Hoo, i'll do it in 128 different colors, am sure that it will turn the market upside-down"
As Jobs said in his most recent keynote more money in R&D isn't everything, and if he says so i believe him.
Unless Woo has something extraordinary under his sleeve - which he doesn't cause if he did he would not need more money - i see Creative in the same position in a couple of years from now. And then they'll try to sue somebody else.

During the meanwhilst, any news from Amazon Unbox ?
How well did they do?
Because it's easy to throw numbers at us, but withouth any comparison, it doesn't really say that much (although it's probably very good)

macpro dead in 2 years...my prediction:mad:
We were discussing this a few threads down the front page.
Doubt the MacPro will be dead, but the market for it will shrivel up very badly unless some universal need for extreme processing is manufactured. With current processing speeds and ThunderBolt accessories, an iMac can become a full pro machine for all sorts of jobs that don't need to work titanic piles of data.
This Pro I purchased in early 2007 is still excellent. It will last until 2014 or beyond, and by that point I will probably go with an iMac. Today's iMacs are already faster than this tower in most ways.

You, sir, get it. The technologies create new capabilities that will adapt to the market. The luddites are only capable of seeing innovation as a loss.
Out of fear imo... or boredom... :P

I hope that I will like it. I hate the new screen bezel on the MacBook Air. The Unibody design is just beautiful and timeless. Pure Aluminum is great - no scratches and easy to clean..
Nice. My 17 MBP (Early 2009) will be getting close to the end of its life cycle by then, allowing me to easily slide into a new MBP.
That's just idiotic. I upgraded from a 2006 MB to a 2011 15" i7, to say I'm satisfied is an understatement. Hideous it is not even near - I've played with the new designs before but nothing comes close to it sitting on your desk.
You're getting all pissy over something that's just a rumour and you don't even know if you're going to like it or not!
Wow a little of topic, but how often do you all buy a new laptop? I used to have Windows Laptops until I switched in 2009 and I would use them till they break (1,5 - 2 Years). My 2009 MBP is still running really good. I bought 8GB RAM for it a week ago and now even Windows 7 runs reasonably fast.

I'm thinkin' Apple should have gone with "iApp Store" (u heard it here FIRST! Let me get a trademark/patent on that) b/c Microsoft is just a big ole' COPYCAT...lol :D
hardly original .. holyshnikes beat you to it about 3 years ago
personally - I like the appapp store, or perhaps the appsmear (goes well with the ipad for feminine hygiene)

Published in USA today. An article titled "Are Lives Really an Acceptable Price for Fuel Efficiency?"
I believe the article you refer to is from the '90's. Regardless, blaming fuel efficiency is a typically American attitude. Why not blame the glut of giant SUVs on the road rather than the small cars? Are countless numbers of EU citizens dying because of their tiny tin-foil cars? Oh noes!
and SuperCachetes, I was under the impression that US jobs were going out of the country bc we can't afford Union price tags. But if you "think" making labor more expensive will spur hiring, then keep "thinking" that with your "brain" ;)
That "thinking" sounds pretty good; maybe you should try it. (Hint: what you can "afford" has nothing to do with unions.) ;)
Meanwhile, I'll be earning my degree from a top 25 university so that I can get a job that affords healthcare for my children
Yep. Sure hope that job isn't found cheaper elsewhere.

The only way i'd give up my Treo for an "iPhone" is if it is a true "smart phone". That means PDA functionality. It's got to do everything my Treo does. If it's simply another phone with iTunes on it then it's not worth switching, at least in my opinion.

To quote:
"Good question raised by Guy English: Why is it OK for the new Star Wars: Trench Run iPhone game to include this image of an iPhone, when many other apps, like for example Instapaper, have been rejected for including original icon artwork that merely resembles an iPhone?"
Boom. So what now apologists?

what? you expect consistency?

Microsoft doesn't really play in the consumer / gadget / toy market, which simply means that you don't get to see most of their products unless you work in a corporate data center.
Of course they play in the consumer / gadget / toy market.
Zune, Kin, Xbox.
They are just not particularly successful in these markets, despite pouring a lot of money into them.

I'm thinking of a 3-monitor gaming/sim setup. No desk - think cockpit.

Oh, yeah, and FCP and Aperture of course... This will be for work.. honest!

The $100 million settlement grants Apple a license to use Creative's patents in all of its products including the iPod. Also announced is that Creative is joining Apple's "Made for iPod" program, and will be introducing an array of iPod accessories later this year.

So how would I go about encrypting this backup file on my Mac?
Don't rely on encryption to protect you in any way. The police can crack it, as can hackers, and they can simply demand with a court order that you give them the password. Then you're forced to essentially testify against yourself. No, pleading the 5th won't help.

I am in favor of Greenpeace's "Green My Apple" campaign. For all of Steve Jobs' zen-attitude, vegetarianism, often-proclaimed "do the right thing" stance, and Apple's financial liquidity, there's no reason why other manufacturers can make the change and Apple isn't willing to move in the right direction with their products.
First and fore most, no other company is making an 100% recyclable product. The thing that greenpeace are holding up as the right thing is that Dell and others agree to bring the product back and keep it out of a land fill as a PC not to say it does not end up there anyway. This is only true if a consumer wishes to send it back. But if they put it in the trash it still goes to the land fill and contaminated the ground.
If the consumer sends it back, all Dell and others do is sales or turns it over to a recycular who takes out what can be recycled and sells it for what they can and those items which can not be recycle are places in US land fills or burned to ashes and put in a land fill with all the toxic chemical.
Like I said before, no one has figures out how to make products which we all are willing to buy without toxic chemicals at price you all are willing to pay.

I'm not a gaming expert, but from what I've read, 512MB is no faster than 256MB for most current gaming applications, it's the throughput of the GPU that counts. Do any gamers out there want to comment on this?
I don't think that you could run Oblivion particularly well with only 256MB of Video Memory. Maybe you could, but you couldn't nearly max of the Graphics or else you would suffer some frame rate issues.

Don't get me wrong, MAD is a very great organization, but kids aren't supposed to drink at all.
Don't be kind -- MADD is a prohibitionist organization that has moved so far away from it's original mission that even the founder no longer has anything to do with it. They've turned into a bunch of loonies who are constantly pushing to stay relevant by crusading against the legal right to drink in this country.
They've brought the per se intoxication level down to .08, and they're continuing for it to be lower.

Appleinsider, however, also claims that Apple has been working on their next killer device. Instead of a video iPod device to drive movie sales, they believe a video streaming device is in the works:
I know it says Instead of a video iPod, they believe a video streaming device. As others have stated, this doesn't seem to be enough to warrant a "Special Media Event".
What if this rumor is half right: There is a new video streaming device ready to be demoed, but the "one more thing" could be that there is a video iPod also ready, and the movie service works the same way with it as the iTMS, but the video iPod can also stream the videos to your TV. There are limitations, such as battery life, but it could be limited to just being able to stream when the video iPod is connected to a power supply.
Just a thought....

I guess Apple should'a put Conroe in the iMacs. Is there a chance this will mean Conroe will be in MacPro's?
I bet this go in the "Mac Gamer" regardless of form factor. Either the mini-tower or a revised Mac Pro enclosure.
