    Hmm mixed feelings about this.

I want them to be successful, but I also want:
    - DVD extras
    - HD resolution
    - burnable to disc
    - rental system

I hope success won't lull them into thinking the current restrictions are ok. :(

Oh well, I can stick with DVDs.

You want HD quality downloads but you can "stick" with DVD's? Do you understand how much information there is for a HD movie? Try one of the new disc formats, but you want to be able to download it? Crazy!

I agree on the rental system however, I wouldn't mind renting but it would have to be cheaper of course.

That's interesting, I didn't know they did that. That's nice that they let them use the icons. I guess it reminds people go out and buy photoshop. :)

Mhm :) That's why you can export Office and iWork files to .pdf from in the program, without having to buy Acrobat.

Those are two different arguments of the same coin and one can infer a lot by the attitude of what is said.
The point is that MisterMe said nothing that your response would have fit. You can infer all you want, but it's very clear that MisterMe was talking about the market share myth, and was not inferring that Macs are immune to malware.

Software options are an epic fail more expensive than Apple's own Mac app store:eek:

That's because you got the physical DVDs included.

Anyway, I'm not getting these Rev A... Kidding! ;)

    "So Live and Let Die!"

You shoot their leg, they shoot you in the head.
Anyone who points a gun at another person is asking for trouble, even if he/she doesn't fire it.

If guns didn't exist, things like this wouldn't be happening.

If guns did not exist it would be happening with whatever does. swords, rocks, fists... in which case the mall cop would have probably been killed in this situation and lost the "good fight". It becomes a game of numbers when guns do not exist... all guns do is put everybody on a level playing field regarldess of numbers (be realistic) or physical strength.

This is my expectation. I am one customer who needs 8 cores for sure. I also expect to need 16 when they become available. Clovertown is not expected to be any longer than Kentsfield.

If you need 16 cores, shouldn't you get a rack with four Xserves (once the new Xserves with Intel-processors become available)?

Sure, getting the same in one (quiet) box for the price of one box would be preferable but this is not available yet.

Or, do you mean you want 16 cores but right now you are not willing to spent what it takes to get it.

(Sorry for the tone, I would like to have 16 cores for my work as well.)

Thank you, Greenpeace. Public awareness is what it's all about. If Apple does not like it, maybe it's time to shape up and actually try to live up to the "environmentally friendly" image that they have been trying to create.

Implicit in this comment is that Apple "didn't like" Greenpeace and tried to shut them down. Why the assumption that Apple was behind this? If this MacExpo is anything like the MacWorlds here in the U.S., then it's not run directly by Apple., so it would've been the decision of whoever was running MacExpo to actually kick Greenpeace out...

If you cannot "argue" based on all the evidence but just conveniently ignore anything that does not support your argument while attacking with anything that does and then pretending everyone else doesn't exist you've then proven you are not worth conversing with and thus my lack of replies to you.
Are you talking to yourself? You've consistently argued that Mac users are complacent and need to "protect" themselves, presumably by using AV software. We've consistently pointed out that AV software offers no advantage to Mac users, to which you resort to the same tired tactic used by shills for the AV industry since OS X was first introduced: you claim that the sky will fall soon and we'll be sorry.

Let's take a look at what you need to ignore to do that:

Well, if any of this is true, I'm going to take a pass on this one.

First of all, I'm not really interested in buying movies. It's not the same as music, with movies one view is all it takes and I'm pretty much done. There are exceptions but they are rare - even rarer now considering the stuff studios are putting out these days. If the rumored price points stick, I can't see the value in downloading something that's likely going to occupy too much space on my drive and even more likely to be erased or burned to DVD - if burning is allowed. Counting up the time to download (ugh), the time to burn it to DVD (if it simply doesn't end up being erased altogether, permissable burning or not) for a movie I never had any intention on keeping in the first place and potentially coughing up about 15 bucks just so I get to join the movie download revolution just isn't adding up in my book.

Worse is if the movie is sub-DVD quality, and I have a bad bad feeling it will be. Ratcheting up H264 to DVD quality (or preferably better - much better) is going to make the download time way too long. In as much as Apple was originally competing with file sharing when it entered the music download biz, it had the advantage of offering consumers a consistent, great sounding, high quality sound file which in itself was desirable where songs that bounced around file sharing networks at the time weren't always so blessed. If Apple really wants to repeat the iTunes miracle again, they have to pull off the same thing with movies. In other words, an experience that is equal to or preferably better than the present DVD experience.

Unfortunately, I don't think that's Apple's intention this time around. My guess is that they are getting their rather sizable and feared (if your Sony, lol) foot in the door now before other online movie dot coms saturate the market and worse, much worse - bring their MS WMV DRM along with them. Apple can establish itself now and pander to the iPod/iTunes faithful and not find itself marginalized for selling online movies in the future by MS and it's C:/Windows/Windows_only/Windows_proprietary/DRM.

But not for me. I still think the online movie biz just isn't ready for prime time, and as a competitor or alternative to Netflix and the terrestrial-based movie rental outfits, far from it. But we'll see. I don't want to poo-poo something sight unseen, and maybe Apple has a surprise or two up it's sleeve - but I doubt it. We simply need better bandwidth than what we have in this country now for this stuff to really fly.

Let a bunch of Greenpeace guys go too far at a tradeshow (see above) and get away with it. Read up on the above comments. They violated their contracts and screwed with other vendors' booths. Perhaps you should learn how to think rationally, then learn how to spell.

I am 99% certain that it will have a white click wheel. I think white will look better than red for the clickwheel anyway.

I don't think there will be anything with that name.

Apple did just very recently file for a new iMovie trade mark in Europe, through Italy. They already had the name registered in 2000/2001. This new application is from 22 August, and no real details are currently published.

How does trademarking work in Europe? Here in the US you trademark something, and you don't have to specify what industry its in, or what the trademark is used for. in Europe do you have to register it for each unique industry? Otherwise, why would they be reapplying if they already have it?

This is great for my alcoholic blackouts. Fire up the program and find out where I've been. Although on my last trip to San Diego it put me across the border and into a Tijuana cat house.

If the guys from The Hangover had iPhones, their backtracking of the previous days events would be much easier.

I think that Apple doesn't have resources for decent quality review process.

App store works in a such way, that all underdog app developers want to update their apps as often as possible. A new update brings an app to the first page in its category, sorted by date (for a day or 2)

Apple does not have guts or desire to charge for reviews, and all this mess goes on. They "review" apps very formally, and I suspect that this is outsourced to India.

If Apple wants to make this right, they should include 10 or 20 reviews into the annual $100 developer fee, and charge $20-$50 for each additional review. That would greatly reduce the number of updates, and increase the quality of reviews.

I myself have several apps in the appstore, and my apps and updates were also rejected many times for formal reasons, which were totally stupid in the context of my apps.

And what's also funny, Apple suddenly rejected my critical update with a bug fix because of a piece of graphic that already was in my app for 6 months :-)

There are already AMD Fusion laptops from many vendors.

    In America maybe.

AMD E-350's CPU is noticeably worse than the C2Ds in MBAs. It is better than Atom but can't fight against Intel's premium CPUs, especially if we take Sandy Bridge into consideration. The IGP is wonderful though.

Llano will hopefully change this since Zacate is meant for netbook and other cheap laptops. Llano will hopefully bring low-voltage chips meant for ultraportables like MBA. So far there are no news though.

Am I the only one who's starting to find this petty crusade of yours annoying? Seriously, just drop it. The iMac is a great machine. I loved my G5 and I might well buy another iMac when I upgrade from the Mini I have now. A Mac Pro would be nice too, but we'll see. Anyways, the iMac is not the "most powerful desktop" in the world and no one gives a damn: it's an awesome machine regardless. So please, honestly, just drop it. What you said was false and still is. It's ok. Everyone makes mistakes. But drop it. It's starting to annoy me very seriously and I'd be surprised if I was the only one.

And I don't see what your personal attacks on some fine folks here are adding to the discussion. Along with opinions, AidenShaw - among others - brings a lot of technical expertise and hard facts to the table. I, for one, value that greatly, and I'm sure I'm not the only one. Indeed, the reason MacRumors is so awesome is that a fair share of the posters bring more than opinions to the forums: they also bring hard facts and educated guesses. I think that people can discuss respectfully, that people can argue respectfully, and that people can disagree respectfully. Most folks here do, and I'm sure you can do it too if you try even just a little. Thanks.

Sorry, if you are feeling too stressed like a few others, you should know how to draw a difference between "personal attacks" as such, and generic/stupid/playful opinions on Windows and machines.

I love to joke and to make public my fondness for Macs. I participate in this forum for a long time, and have always had my arguments with Mr. Shaw, both in technical and playful terms...his posts are almost always directed at bashing Macs or praising its failures...and I don't care, honestly...I just follow on with the jokes.

I have been receiving personal attacks, instead, because people here can't tell such a difference...they get offended when MACHINES are bashed and then offend a PERSON back...

I don't do that, I bash machines and keep on playing on ad hominem arguments that don't have to be offensive...you may tell it by probably all my posts...so considering you seem to be a slightly more mature person, try to understand it better.

And please, getting "seriously annoyed" because I said the MP was the most powerful desktop? Really, get a grip and live a life outside...if you and others are that sensitive you need a reality check...this is just a damn computer forum, and we talk about damn computers...nothing else.

I have already defined "most powerful" as something more than just the speed of a chip...and I will keep saying it as much as I want, as Apple does, even if you show me a thousand SPECmarks...just leave me with my stupid jokes and don't answer, it's easier.

Must have been a very decently trained security guard, kudos...
What baffles me more is that there are so many people who actually take sides with the criminals here. Granted, robbing an Apple Store is not the most heinous of crimes, but seriously, this is what can happen when you decide to break the law.
I wonder if certain people assume that we should all just go train with Morpheus and Neo, so the poor armed criminals could be disarmed with the least possible physical damage to their bodies.
There is such a thing as being to much of a pacifist -_-

I think all this jumping "ohh.. the next MBP will be out at the next apple event" is silly, as there is nothing we can do about it! But I like it! :D

I too think we will see some Merom MBP's completely redesigned on the 24th as they have been using the same case for for the powerbooks too, and with the heat and various other problems with some MBP's they may have reached the limit to what they can do with the case, so the only way to move on up, may be to redesign.

    I'm all for it!
Can't wait for the Merom, as i've been waiting all summer for the new MBP's, (and now summer has gone!) to use, as i've never had a Mac, and there is no real rush for it, so i'd thought I'd wait for a BETTER one!! :-)

I give up! Before you know it, we will be selling our Merom MBP's on eBay to flood this place with comments like "Can't wait for the new Kentsfield (or laptop equiv) 4 core beasts with 4GB of RAM and 250GB HDD's with blueray DVD's etc.

    BRING IT ON!! :D
Love it - it's part of the whole buying experience.

Shipping date on the 1.83Ghz White MB is 5-7 days. On the rest of the MBs it's 3-5.

All other comps are 24hr, apart from the iMacs which are 1-2.

Has it been like this for a while already? Is this because of shortages, or is it a sign?
